Daily Examen

July 29th, 2015 by Gabriel McAuliffe

As is found in our Constitutions [cf. #24] and in our Provincial Statutes [cf. #3], we Discalced Carmelite Seculars are encouraged to recite Night Prayer (or Compline) “if possible” and it is taken to be a normal daily occurrence.  Those who do so can find that the rubrics show that “a brief examination of conscience may be made.” [Liturgy of the Hours, Night Prayer].

Fr. Gregory Ross, O.C.D., of the Discalced Carmelite Friars of the Oklahoma Province of St. Thérèse, authored a supplemental examination of conscience, focusing on Carmelite spirituality. It can be found on the link labeled “Examen” on the right, courtesy of the Province of St. Thérèse.  It may be a help as you begin Night Prayer.
