Novena to St. Elizabeth of the Trinity from ICS Publications Website

St. Elizabeth of the Trinity spent just five years as a Discalced Carmelite nun before her death at age twenty-six. Yet she had discovered and lived her secret of holiness for years before as an active laywoman: dwelling in the perennial presence of the Holy Trinity “in the heaven of our soul.” Pope Saint John Paul II beatified St. Elizabeth in 1984, describing her as “a brilliant witness of love and joy,” and a “prophet of the presence of God.” She was canonized on October 16, 2016, by Pope Francis.

The following novena follows St. Elizabeth of the Trinity’s prayer to the Trinity, which she composed after attending an eight-day community retreat on the Mystery of the Incarnation. We invite you to pray along with us during the days of this novena.

Day 1
“O my God, Trinity Whom I adore; help me to forget myself entirely that I may be established in You as still and as peaceful as if my soul were already in eternity.”

Our Father…
Hail Mary…

R. That we may become worthy of the promises of Christ.

O God of bountiful mercy, You revealed to St. Elizabeth of the Trinity the mystery of Your secret presence in the hearts of those who love You and You chose her to adore You in spirit and in truth. Through her intercession may we also abide in the love of Christ, that we may merit to be transformed into temples of Your life-giving Spirit to the praise of Your glory. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Day 2
