About Us

May the Peace of Christ be with you!

The Secular Order of Discalced Carmelites of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel and the Holy Mother St. Teresa of Jesus (located within the Diocese of Sacramento) is a fifty year old local community of a larger association of lay women, men, and diocesan priests, who, in union with the Carmelite Orders of priests and nuns, are called to a shared journey of seeking the face of God and loving Him with all of our hearts, minds and strength, and loving one another as Christ loves us. Through fidelity to the Gospel, to our professed promises, in the practice of contemplative prayer, to the sacramental life of the Church, and in communion with one another we hope to obtain our goals.

Feel free to read through, download, and print out our booklet celebrating our 50th Anniversary.

We are administered by a Delegate Provincial of the Discalced Carmelite Fathers of the Saint Joseph Province, headquartered in San Jose, California.

We meet monthly from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the third Saturday of every month at St. Mary’s Church in Sacramento, CA.

On the right side of our website you’ll find links to many other valuable sites that will give you information about Secular Carmelites as well as the whole Carmelite family – who we are – what we’re committed to – Who we strive to serve.

In addition to those great sites, you can also find what our province has made known about being a Secular Discalced Carmelite in a handy brochure.

May God bless you and continue to draw you more deeply into His heart!
